Caravaggio perdido durante siglos es autenticado y exhibido en el Prado
Han pasado cuatro siglos desde su creación, tres siglos y 🛡 medio desde su llegada a España y tres años desde que estuvo a punto de subastarse por solo €1,500. Un 🛡 Caravaggio perdido, luminoso y cuidadosamente restaurado se exhibe en el Prado de Madrid.
La Ecce Homo, pintada en los últimos y 🛡 oscuros años de vida del maestro italiano, atrajo la atención de los medios de comunicación de todo el mundo después 🛡 de que los expertos del museo la identificaran en un catálogo de subastas y comunicaran sus sospechas a que la 🛡 pintura había sido mal atribuida.
A pesar de que se anunciara como una obra del círculo del pintor español del siglo 🛡 XVII José de Ribera, los especialistas estaban bastante seguros de que la pintura había sido creada por Michelangelo Merisi da 🛡 Caravaggio.
Después de que el Ministerio de Cultura impusiera una prohibición de exportación, los expertos llevaron a cabo un meticuloso examen 🛡 y restauración de la pintura de 111 cm x 86 cm.
El mes pasado, la obra fue finalmente autenticada como un 🛡 Caravaggio y el Prado anunció que la pintura, comprada a la familia que la había poseído durante generaciones por un 🛡 comprador anónimo por una cantidad no revelada, se exhibiría en el museo hasta mediados de octubre.
Se ha sabido desde entonces 🛡 que la obra perteneció originalmente a los virreyes españoles en Nápoles, de donde pasó a la colección del rey Felipe 🛡 IV. En 1823, pasó a manos de la familia Pérez de Castro, de cuyos descendientes fue comprada por el actual 🛡 propietario. Según los medios de comunicación españoles, el propietario es un nacional británico que reside en España y que pagó 🛡 €36m por el Caravaggio.
El Ecce Homo en el Prado
A partir del martes, los visitantes del museo podrán ver un Cristo 🛡 azotado y afligido, un Poncio Pilato abrumado y un soldado romano sosteniendo una túnica tan roja como la sangre que 🛡 gotea de la corona de espinas.
El Prado describió la pintura, una de las aproximadamente 60 obras conocidas del artista, como 🛡 "uno de los mayores descubrimientos en la historia del arte". Según el presidente del museo, Javier Solana, no es una 🛡 situación cotidiana que aparezca un Caravaggio.

David García Cueto, jefe de pintura italiana y francesa anterior a 1800 🛡 en el Prado, dijo que la Ecce Homo refleja los años finales fugitivos de Caravaggio, cuando huyó de Roma para 🛡 evitar una posible ejecución después de herir mortalmente a un proxeneta en una pelea en 1606 y viajó a Nápoles, 🛡 Sicilia y Malta.
Añadió que la nueva pintura no solo proporciona un diálogo con los otros Ecce Homos del Prado, como 🛡 los de Tiziano y Murillo, sino que también ofrece un interesante contraste con el David con la Cabeza de Goliat, 🛡 pintado alrededor de 1600, que forma parte de la colección permanente del Prado.

"Los 🛡 visitantes tendrán la oportunidad de ver dos pinturas de Caravaggio, exhibidas a pocos pies de distancia, que fueron pintadas dentro 🛡 de seis a nueve años la una de la otra: David y Goliat y esta Ecce Homo", dijo. "Podemos mirar 🛡 su David, pintado cuando Caravaggio tenía alrededor de 30 años, y luego mirar cómo, en el transcurso de esos seis 🛡 a nueve años, su estilo dio un salto hacia adelante, volviéndose mucho más expresionista, audaz e intenso".
